Frequently Asked Questions

WHO IS A MEMBER AND WHAT IS A MEMBER ENTITLED TO?

A member in Lifespring is any person who has paid dues for the current membership year, which runs from August 1 to July 31. Members may take classes for both semesters and participate in Winter Presentations, special events and activities.

WHY IS THERE A “CAP” ON MEMBERSHIP?
We have been growing steadily over the past seven years.  In order to continue to provide some classes with limited enrollment, rooms that are not overcrowded, and classes that allow for quality discussions, we have decided to “CAP” our enrollment at approximately 160 members to accomplish these goals. Each year, we will accept new members in the fall semester providing there are still spots available.

HOW DOES THE “CAP” AFFECT ME IF I AM CURRENTLY A MEMBER?
If you are currently a member and each year in the summerl, pay your fee and register for courses, you will continue to be a member.  If you need to take time off for any reason you are no longer considered a member; however, if you are gone for not more than one year,  you are eligible to rejoin for the year immediately following your absence.

WHAT IS A "FORMER MEMBER?"

If a member did not renew his/her membership for not more than one year, they are considered a “former member” and are eligible to rejoin for the year immediately following their absence.

HOW DOES THE “CAP” AFFECT NEW APPLICANTS?
To apply for membership you must send in a completed registration form and check by the deadline date in August.  The catalog with the registration form for the upcoming year is posted online the first week in July. Membership is a full year (August 1 - July 31).  We do not accept new members for the spring semester.

New applicants are accepted only in the fall when the membership falls below the “cap” of 160. If at that time, we have more applicants than openings, a lottery will be held. Those who win the lottery will become members. Those who do not win the lottery are encouraged to apply again the following year.  We do not keep a wait list.  If you would like to be notified by email when the catalog is online, please contact us and request to be placed on the notification list.
